As a metal yarn

As a metal yarn is a multidisciplinary exhibition, connecting contemporary art to the history of silk production in Georgia.

Taking the production tradition as an allegory to the contemporary culture in Georgia, the exhibition tries to emphasize on its specificities, the history and the potential to the future.

20 students from various universities and art schools across the country are selected via open call. Works by contemporary artists Ketuta Alexi - Meshishvili, Tika Zhvania and a retrospective of a historical figure Vera Pagava are presented alongside to the Tbilisi State Museum of Silk collection.

As a metal yarn derives its titles from a work by a group of students (Silk Laboratory, 2016, 3', video), presented at the exhibition. As in the video work, the local silk is called "a ray" and is as strong as a metal.
